SYNOPSIS
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life. Then she’s captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She’s amazed she doesn’t end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn’t have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side … and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Why I Read This Book
I was on the lookout for a good supernatural romance and recognized Jeaniene Frost’s name from some reviews I had read. I know I just had to snatch up the first book in this series to see what Bones was all about!

My Thoughts
As I read the first chapter of this book, I assumed it was just going to be a straight, steamy romance read – you know, vampire hunter gets it on with a lot of guys, vampires or no. But by the end of the first chapter, it was revealed to be something else entirely – a bit of romance, a bit of mystery, and a lot of fun.

Let’s talk characters. Cat is a fierce girl! I loved her from the first moment – she’s one of those people who’s full of attitude and isn’t going to take any crap from anyone. But she’s also a vampire hunter, though not a normal vampire hunter – she’s also half-human and half-vampire. Her nighttime hunting leads her to meet Bones (Bones! *swoon*), who is an awesome male lead and nothing like how I picture male vampires to be. He’s smart, emotional, and super sexy.

The relationship between Cat and Bones is epic. I loved seeing them together and watching their relationship grow from being one where Cat is just helping Bones with his mission – the two of them working together in vampire slaying fun – to two people who actually start to have feelings for one another. FEELINGS! I was rooting for them from the instant they hooked up. They absolutely kick BUTT when they’re together. It’s awesome.

I haven’t read a lot of urban fantasy before, but this really was one of my favourites. Jeaniene Frost writes some amazing characters and some super-sultry, sexy-times scenes. Things get HOT! Of course, that only solidified my love for Cat and Bones even more!

The thing I was most upset about with this book? THE ENDING! Of course, I can’t tell you what happened, but Jeaniene Frost left me on major pins and needles to read the second book in the series with that ending!

This was such a wonderful read. I love reading a book that has me hooked from the opening pages and know that the rest of the series is going to be so much fun to read. And of course, I’ll have to read it because already I’m going through Cat and Bones withdrawal!

If you like steamy, supernatural romances, READ THIS BOOK! If you like sexy vampire guys who are BADASS and superhot and have great chemistry with the leading lady, READ THIS BOOK!

  1. Jen

BONES BONES BONES. It’s been years since I read the first four books and I haven’t yet continued with the series (because I got so swept up in other series while waiting for the next one to come out. FAIL.) But I remember THOSE FEELINGS for this book. Bones. BONES! I can’t say it enough <3

  2. Sounds pretty good! I’ve heard a lot about this Bones character, maybe I should start this series and see what the big fuss is about! lol I like long series, gives me lots of story :)

    Thanks for the review!

  3. So yummy and awesmomey, right? :) There is no couple out there like Cat & Bones! Such a fab series. I can’t wait for you to meet Vlad! God, I love that snarky Wallachian!

  4. This book is on my shelf, and now I have to definitely read it soon! It sounds like a series I would get hooked onto. I have the second one as well, so at least I wouldn’t have a long wait to find out what happens next. I think my library even has most of the series on eBook that I can borrow. Thank you for the review, and adding another book that I need to cram in asap!

  5. Oh oh oh I want to read this now! I hadn’t heard of it before but I like a kick ass heroine and a good steamy romance. Sometimes I find that it’s good to step out of the YA bubble to read an adult book where we can just get… more to satisfy our needs LOL Great review!

  6. i’ve been DYING to read this, but I’ve been putting it off. Your review makes me want to read it even more! as soon as I get through my huge TBR pile I’m definitly picking it up!

I’m pretty sure I always assume that all adult PNRs are just sex romps and that’s it. Not exactly sure where I picked up that impression, but I do realize now from reviews I have read for them that that is not necessarily the case. I’m glad you had so much fun with this one, Kristilyn! One day, I too will take the plunge and read an adult PNR for the first time… and it may very well be this one! Cat and Bones sound GREAT together!

    • Ha ha … that made me laugh! BUT, I think I thought the same thing, that adult PNRs couldn’t have a storyline to them, it was just sex, sex, sex. I hope you can read one someday — this series is fun!

This is a rare UF that is super duper heavy on romance! It’s like the perfect mix!! Most of the time with UFs, I’m always waiting for the hot stuff to happen and it doesn’t. This series delivers! And yep, it’ll be good to have #3 on hand after #2 :D

Awesome review – I want to run and re-read it again!!

    • Ha ha … I love that you’re always waiting for the hot stuff! I think I’m getting to be the same way. This series is awesome!! (So far, at least :))
