I’m so sad that the Anna and the French Kiss readalong is over! It’s been great and I’m so happy to have not only reread the book, but to have FINALLY obtained a copy for my shelf. My shelf is happy. :)

Thank you so much to Molli (Once Upon a Prologue) and Suz (A Soul Unsung) for hosting this fabulous event — it’s been a lot of fun!

me and annaAnna and the French Kiss Questions (Week Three)

St Clair knows he needs to make a decision about his relationship with Anna, but his hesitation only hurts her. Do you sympathize with him?

This is a tough one because from the start we know that St Clair really likes Anna and that Anna really likes him back, so I have NO sympathy for his hesitation. He could have something great with Anna — he KNOWS this — and yet he doesn’t want to be alone? What IS that? If I were Anna, I would feel hurt, too.

Anna is hurt by St Clair, and makes some bad decisions, relationship wise. Do you sympathize with her, or not?

Oh gosh … her “fling” was so not what I wanted for her! She could have done SO MUCH BETTER. So, yeah, no. No sympathy for her either! I think she should’ve waited for someone special — even if it WASN’T St Clair. I felt she entered into that weird relationship just to show him that she, too, can move on.

How would you have reacted in the park if you were Meredith? How do you think Anna handles the fall out with Meredith?

I thought she handled it well, but I think they needed to talk a lot sooner than when they did. I mean, Meredith’s reaction was very understandable since she was in love with St Clair, too. I would feel VERY hurt if something like that happened. Although, she should’ve seen the signs that St Clair liked Anna WELL before the park. I guess once it finally came true and she saw them acting like they were together, it could be a lot to handle.

Anna has a meltdown in chapter 42 – do you think this was a break-through for her? St Clair tells her that he isn’t the only one who is afraid of being alone. Do you think Anna ever realized this before now?

I think Anna was too busy mooning over St Clair to realize that she doesn’t want to be alone, either. BUT I totally get her meltdown. I had NO sympathy towards St Clair when she told him that he WASN’T alone because he really wasn’t. But if Anna couldn’t have St Clair, she shouldn’t feel like she has to settle for second best JUST to have some kind of intimate connection in her life.

Were you proud of Anna for the steps she takes to repair the relationships in her life?

YES! Especially with Meredith. I loved Meredith from page one and felt like that relationship needed to be repaired PRONTO. I also loved how Anna’s relationship with Rashmi evolved throughout the book — I feel like they’d become GREAT friends (had this fictional world continued).

Read-Along: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (Week Two Update!)

20130404-203510.jpg

This is my update for the second week of the Anna and the French Kiss read-along. I’ve already finished the book, but part of me ALREADY wants to reread it … AGAIN. I’m seriously thinking of getting the audiobook to listen to next. It’s just SUCH a sweet story!

Thank you so much to Molli (Once Upon a Prologue) and Suz (A Soul Unsung) for hosting this fabulous event, which is not only a read-along but 20 days of reading, challenges, secret giveaways, and having fun!

me and annaAnna and the French Kiss Questions (Week Two)

At the end of what we read last, St Clair asked Anna a question that could change their friendship. Would you answer the same way?

I am TOTALLY on Anna’s side with her answer. I mean, it could have gone so many ways, but the fact that St. Clair wasn’t in a great state when he first told her his feelings doesn’t mean that Anna should be shouting HER feelings from the rooftops. It was definitely a heartbreaking answer, but I think it had to be done.

Anna realizes in Chapter 17 that she and St Clair will both be spending their Thanksgiving break at school, basically alone. How do you think this changes their relationship?

I think it really UPS the awkwardness! I mean, to be ALONE with a BOY that you LIKE for DAYS at a time? I would feel so nervous! I think this will DEFINITELY change the relationship because they won’t have to sensor themselves around their friends, keeping up appearances of ONLY being friends. I think while they try to not be so flirty towards one another while Rashmi or Josh or Mer are around, they can let go of inhibitions a little more now.

Anna and St Clair’s relationship changes even more over the Christmas holiday. Do you think either of them realizes just HOW much?

I don’t think so. Even though they talked LOTS through email — flirty talk — and over the phone, I don’t think that either of them realize that their talk was surpassing that of friendship. OR they knew, but neither of them wanted to admit it. I think part of me really wants to know if St. Clair felt the same thing about returning to Paris as Anna did, that home was where they were, that it wasn’t with their families or in their home town, but with each other.

Anna has a big realization about her relationship with St Clair at the end of chapter 30. Discuss!

I think Anna had gone for SO LONG without really coming to terms with her feelings, thinking that her and St. Clair could JUST be friends, but a little part of her ALWAYS knew that her feelings were so much more. I was so happy that Anna finally admitted what she was feeling! Of course, I wish it had been out loud, said to Etienne, with him responding by kissing her passionately, but I’ll settle for Anna being swoony and thinking about him all the time.

How do you think Anna will deal with her new feelings for St Clair?

I think it will be tough, ESPECIALLY since he’s still in a relationship with Ellie. While she’d love to share her feelings with him, or TELL someone about them, she really has to keep them under wraps so save her friendship.

Read-Along: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (Week One Update!)

20130404-203510.jpg

Yay for the Anna and the French Kiss read-along! I remember reading this book last year and completely falling in love with it! I started it late in the evening and stayed up until 2:00 a.m. finishing it. THAT’s love.

me and annaAnna and the French Kiss Questions (Week One)

Anna is afraid to really experience Paris when she arrives. Would you be, or would you look at it as an adventure?

I would be TERRIFIED! I’ve never really been a person who travels alone, so I would have no idea what to do or where to go. I think I’d love to look at it as an adventure, but I would take a while to get my water wings. AND it has been a long time since I took French, so I would be VERY rusty in that department!

Which of the characters we meet – Anna, St. Clair, Josh, Rashmi, or Meredith – do you most identify with? Why?

I think I most identify with Anna because I can be so awkward in new situations and say all the wrong things. I can also get very confused and probably wouldn’t admit it.

Anna is drawn to St. Clair, as well, everyone is. She wants to be “just friends” with him. Do you think this will be possible for her? Can a guy and a girl BE just friends?

I think it’s possible, but at that age it might get tricky. AND one of the first things she notices is his looks and she feels sad when she hears about Ellie, so I think any chance of having just a friendship has gone out the window. And, really, whenever they’re together I start smiling, so I’m hoping there’s some “more than friends” interaction!

What are your first impressions of Anna? Of St. Clair?

Oh, gosh, I LOVE Anna. She’s just so cute! And I love her inner dialogue. (Anna confused.) I do feel sorry for her with her dad being the writer guy who writes the same old stories, tragic romances, and her getting carted off to France. I loved that although she was thankful about France, she still doesn’t want to go — or, she at least would have wanted the option of staying. She’s human!

And St. Clair? *swoons* Is that enough? :)

What’s your favorite moment or quote from what we’ve read so far?

Oh, SO MANY! For starters, the cemetery scene where Anna and St. Clair are with Victor and his victor. So funny! And when they’re at Point Zero and Anna makes a wish and the wind picks up … Is this the beginning of … something?

Of course, each page has gems on it, so I can’t pick just one part or quote I love so much. It seems that I’m either swooning or snorting with laughter on each page!
