GUEST POST: Witches: From Book to Screen (Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books)

Alexa Loves Books

Today I am happy to have Alexa, from Alexa Loves Books here on the blog for WITCH WEEK, talking about witch and wizard books that have been made into movies, TV shows — or even performed on Broadway!

I love a good visual witch performance, so this should be good!

Alexa is a book blogger from New York, who loves to read, travel, and write!

It’s Alexa of Alexa Loves Books and I am so excited to be back on Kristilyn’s blog and posting again, this time for witch/wizard week! I love witches and wizards much more than I love zombies, and so, I’m pretty excited about this week’s post. In lieu of posting a review of a witch book, I thought I’d share some fairly neat titles with witches/wizards that have gone from books/comics to film, TV and even Broadway!

BROADWAY

Wicked by Gregory Maguire has actually been adapted into a Broadway show (which I’ve now seen twice). I enjoyed reading the book, but I have to say – the show is pretty darn spectacular. I love that it gives a completely different take on the Wicked Witch of the West.

TV SHOWS

The Secret Circle series by L.J. Smith is was actually turned into a show, and I thought, based on the few episodes I did get to watch, that it was pretty awesome. Sadly, the show has since been cancelled.

The Vampire Diaries, also by L.J. Smith, is about to premiere season four (starting October 11, 8PM on the CW), and I am still as in love with it as when it started. There’s technically only very minimal witch involvement, as it’s obviously mostly about vampires, but I’d say it still counts, especially when Bonnie does her thing. Continue reading

FEATURE: I Will Cast a Spell on You!

When I was thinking about what to do for Witch Week, I knew I *had* to have a post about casting spells. How many of us read all of these books about witches, magicians, wizards, etc. and finish them thinking, “I WANT TO HAVE MAGICAL ABILITIES!”

Well, put on your cape! Grab your wand! We’re talking SPELLS! And MAGIC!

Here’s how my day would go, if I could use magic:

8:00 AM — Wake up. Wave my wand to get that steaming cup of coffee on my bedside table PRONTO. Uses the Lumos spell to get just the right amount of light in the room.

8:10 AM — No need for showering. I wave my wand and I’m clean, clothed, and looking AWESOME. I also look remarkably refreshed for the horrible sleeper I am. The power of magic!

8:30 AM — Hop on my broom and fly around the yard for a bit. Oops! Hit a tree! Continue reading

The reason: Harry Potter is a wizard!

My Thoughts
I originally wasn’t thinking I’d write a review about J. K. Rowling’s amazing first book to her equally amazing Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but the second I started listening to it, I knew I had to write something.

Yes, I listened to this one on audio. I had read this series in university, starting when the fourth book came out. I remember making fun of a friend of mine who was reading the books because they were MG books – kids books. I could never enjoy these! Continue reading
