Waiting on Wednesday: The Almost Truth, by Eileen Cook

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming books whose releases are being eagerly awaited. Bloggers are encouraged to join in and post about the book they’re looking forward to reading.

Today’s WoW post is a book I added to my TBR list after constantly seeing the cover and saying how much I loved it. Sure, there’s not much to it, but The Almost Truth, by Eileen Cook, looks like a really great read!

Here’s the synopsis (from Goodreads):

Sadie can’t wait to get away from her backwards small town, her delusional mom, her jailbird dad, and the tiny trailer where she was raised…even though leaving those things behind also means leaving Brendan. Sadie wants a better life, and she has been working steadily toward it, one con at a time.

But when Sadie’s mother wipes out Sadie’s savings, her escape plan is suddenly gone. She needs to come up with a lot of cash—and fast—or she’ll be stuck in this town forever.

With Brendan’s help, she devises a plan—the ultimate con—to get the money. But the more lies Sadie spins, the more she starts falling for her own hoax…and perhaps for the wrong boy. Sadie wanted to change her life, but she wasn’t prepared to have it flipped upside down by her own deception. With her future at stake and her heart on the line, suddenly it seems like she has a lot more than just money to lose…

The synopsis really doesn’t give THAT much away as to what’s going to happen in the story and the cover — with the girl and boy, the girls fingers crossed behind her back — makes me even more intrigued!

The Almost Truth will be released by Simon Pulse on December 4, 2012. You should read it! Continue reading

Waiting on Wednesday: Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1), by Gail Carriger

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming books whose releases are being eagerly awaited. Bloggers are encouraged to join in and post about the book they’re looking forward to reading.

I have heard absolutely amazing things about Gail Carriger and her Parasol Protectorate series, so when I saw that she had a new YA book coming out — Etiquette & Espionage — I knew it had to be added to my TBR list!

Here’s the synopsis (from Goodreads):

It’s one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It’s quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to finishing school.

Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is the bane of her mother’s existence. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper etiquette at tea–and god forbid anyone see her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. She enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.

But little do Sophronia or her mother know that this is a school where ingenious young girls learn to finish, all right–but it’s a different kind of finishing. Mademoiselle Geraldine’s certainly trains young ladies in the finer arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but also in the other kinds of finishing: the fine arts of death, diversion, deceit, espionage, and the modern weaponries. Sophronia and her friends are going to have a rousing first year at school.

First in a four book YA series set 25 years before the Parasol Protectorate but in the same universe.

25 years BEFORE the Parasol Protectorate series? How awesome is that! I’m hoping that this book will finally get me to read the whole PP series — and become a brand new Gail Carriger fan! And isn’t the cover GORGEOUS?!? I love the black and white against the deep purple … and the scissors in her hand?? What are they for?? I can’t wait to read this one!

(Note: I actually got this one from Hachette Canada and it’s AMAZING! Can’t wait to share my review with you guys! Unfortunately, that won’t be for a few months. All I can say is that you won’t be disappointed!) Continue reading

Waiting on Wednesday: Every Day, by David Levithan

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming books whose releases are being eagerly awaited. Bloggers are encouraged to join in and post about the book they’re looking forward to reading.

I’ve only read one other David Levithan book, Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares, and LOVED it! So when I saw that he had a new book, Every Day, coming out, I knew it would be awesome.

Here’s the synopsis (from Goodreads):

Every day a different body. Every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl.

Every morning, A wakes in a different person’s body, a different person’s life. There’s never any warning about where it will be or who it will be. A has made peace with that, even established guidelines by which to live: Never get too attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere.

It’s all fine until the morning that A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which A has been living no longer apply. Because finally A has found someone he wants to be with—day in, day out, day after day.

With his new novel, David Levithan has pushed himself to new creative heights. He has written a captivating story that will fascinate readers as they begin to comprehend the complexities of life and love in A’s world, as A and Rhiannon seek to discover if you can truly love someone who is destined to change every day.

I fell in love the instant I read the first line of synopsis. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

Every Day will be released by Knopf Books For Young Readers on August 28, 2012. You should read it! Continue reading
